Laurence Judge worked for the Major Crimes Unit. His caseload included auto theft, organized crime, and of course, homicide. He worked hard to keep those things from his wife Jeanine and their daughter, Angela.
However, Lawrence only believed in monsters that were human. He thought that evil was the name people gave to mental illness, to the misanthropes who had been malnourished and beaten from a young age. He was wrong.
On the trail of an apparent serial killer with an anomalous pattern, Lawrence was captured by Christopher Browne. Kept prisoner for weeks in the sewer, the monster conversed at length with Lawrence about how impressed it was with his near-ability to capture the serial killer, a rogue Kindred. Christopher told him how much it had learned about him in turn. About his wife, and about his daughter.
And the monster told him he could protect them, just as long as he became a monster as well. If he was good to the things in darkness, his family would be fine. Better than they would be on a widow’s pension, at any rate.
And Lawrence accepted. He became a servant of the beast that killed him. He still contends with monsters, and he still protects the innocent from them.
After being offered a path back to humanity by Simon, Judge has begun to attempt to rebuild himself over again as a man.
